Safari for Windows tries to load java from non-existent folder

Everything worked smoothly until the most recent updates - I think the one for Java in particular. Trying to access any page that uses Java gives me an error, "The Java Runtime Environment cannot be loaded from ...JAVAFX,,,KVM.dll". The path indeed does not exist, but that's not where the DLL is. Other browsers realize this, but Safari keeps looking for the DLL there and I can't figure out how to make it stop. Saw a reference to a registry key that Safari might be accessing to locate jvm.dll, but I can't find it. Reinstallations of Java and of Safari haven,t helped, nor has deleting all older Java installation or anything else I've tried. This is getting extremely frustrating. Can anyone tell me how to convince Safari to use my current - and valid, according to all other browsers - Java installation?

Safari 5.1.7 on Windows Vista, Java 7/5.
