Q: I purchased movies on my Apple TV (3rd generation), it still is viewable on the Apple TV, but it does not show up in my iTunes Library with the rest of my movies.  Where is it stored?

You can re-download content purchased from the iTunes store (availability varies depending on location) using the purchased option from the Quick Links section in the top right corner of the iTunes homepage in your iTunes application on your computer.

This was a huge help Churchill!! OMG...I have been trying to figure this out for weeks!!! I was worried that i purchased on my apple tv and couldn't get it on itunes and eventually move it over to my ipad.....big help...thanks!!

This was great....and exactly what I was looking for too.  But....I have a follow up question to this.  My hard drive on my Mac is almost at capacity.  Is there any way to take TV seasons and movies off my hard drive and "put them back" to only my Apple TV?  And/or, what is the best way to take movies/TV seasons off my hard drive?
