I get a random door bell sound at random times, even if the IMac is off. What do I do?
Mac OS X (10.6.6)
i get a doorbell sound every night for the past week at 7:57 pm CST. I don't have a doorbell sound on my list of sounds nor do I have an alarm set at that time. Is this from the recent update? is it from a new app I have downloaded?
I hear a door bell alert coming from my iPad. None of my notifactions are set to a doorbell.. baffled
Your iMac continues to make system noises even after you turn it off and unplug it from the outlet?

The iMac sound isn't from system noises (I think), it's like a notification sound, but I have nothing to be notified by.
My expertise ends here... Hopefully someone else comes by and gives useful suggestions and tips.

Do you have Growl installed (or running something that insalls Growl)?

Just reread your original post? You hear a sound from your imac even when it is off? That's impossible!
Yes, I do have Growl but I don't think its working -- I was afraid to start it because I didn't know what it does.

Yes, it sounds when I have the iMac turned off -- I still have it plugged in though.
Growl is a notification system. One way of announcing an even of some kind would be to play a sound. That is why I asked.
But all of this is academic if you still think you are hearing something when the imac is off. If that is the case I think it may be something maybe near your imac but not the imac itself. If it's off, no power to the imac (unless you have a broken switch) so there is no way for the imac to make a sound.

if its off, thats weird. but I had a bell sound that was freaking me out! i finally discovered it was linked to my google voice account- i have a plugin for g chrome that says when i have a txt- every time i get a txt it dings. configurable in settings.
check your plugins and settings! =0)
