why no good call blocking app?

Is there any good way to block calls? The gov. No Call List does not seem to be very effective.

Thanks, roaminggnome

When a telemarketer calls the first time, I create a contact with a name "Tm #" with # being sequential. If an existing telemarketer contact calls, Double click the iPhone and it disconnects without an ATT charge.

Would an app designed to recognize the contact and, if the first two characters are "Tm", do the double click for me, need to have "access to the core function of the iPhone"?

If not, such an app would be as good for me as a call blocker.

Put yourself on the national Do Not Call list and start filing complaints with the FCC at donotcall.gov for every call you get.

To answer the question, yes, such an app would require access to the core functions of the phone and would pose a security risk. Do not expect Apple to open up the APIs necessary to implement that functionality.

The do-not-call registry is a partial answer becase the telemarketers are not supposed to be accessing cell phones to begin with, but some do, and there are so many loopholes in the do-not-call regulations that a great many get through and filing a complaint is pointless. Anyone who you have ever done business with and charitable organizations are exempt. Anyone you have ever done business with is a very nebulous category, all you have to do is buy something on-line, in a store and they have you. If you buy in a store and are required to put your phone number on the check, if you use a check, they have you.

All of that said, file a complaint, if it holds up they will get a fine of $29,000 per violation.
