Will it be possible to add USB 3.0 to older MacBook Pro

I have a Mid 2009 17" MacBook Pro and was wondering if in the future it will be possible to switch out USB 2.0 to USB 3.0 now that the new MacBook Pros have USB 3.0 built in.

I know that there are adaptors out there, but I'd rather have the port switched out to get the full improvements that 3.0 offers.

MacBook Pro (17-inch Mid 2009), Mac OS X (10.7.4)

I am not sure what adapters you are thinking of. There are cards which can be plugged into a desktop model. It seems like a USB2 device and be plugged into a USB3 port without adapter, it just runs at USB2 speeds.

The problem with laptops is there is very little you can do in terms of upgrading and hardware modifications, and it is getting even worse with newer models where more is soldered in.
