Upgraded to 3.3 now have a couple problems please help

Just upgraded to Aperture 3.3. I have two problems I need help with.

1) There is no option on the right side with import setting to "move files" or "copy files." I did read through some discussions that it appears after you select a folder to save to but this has not worked for me.

2) When trying to import from Mac HD>Pictures>edit It only shows 3 videos. It will not show the additional pictures and folder structure in this folder for me to import. Why will it show video files and not pics? I did go to "Import settings" and made sure the "File type" was all de-selected so I am not excluding any files they are just not showing up. Is this a known problem or am I doing something wrong? I am doing it the same way I did prior to the upgrade.

Thanks for any help!

When you import, you have the option to copy the files into the Aperture Library, to leave them in their current location, or to store them in a different folder. These options are set in the "Aperture Library" brick of the Import panel.

With the third option "Store Files" in "Pictures" or "Choose" you should see the "copy" or "move" options. Are they not there?

If you move the images on import to a folder, you can move them into the Aperture library later: select them in the Browser after impoert and use "File > Consolidate Originals".

When trying to import from Mac HD>Pictures>edit It only shows 3 videos. It will not show the additional pictures and folder structure in this folder for me to import. Why will it show video files and not pics?

Not sure. Have you "Do not import Duplicates" enabled? What file types do you want to import, and what is the folder structure like inside your "edit" folder?

The two options are not there, but when I reopened again today they are there?!?!?! They seem to come/go and not sure what the change is. "Do not import Duplicates" is not enabled but I have tried checking/unchecking to see if that were the case.

I am trying to import .jpg but I have several folders Pictures>2011>edit>101_Pana> (Then here are the pics I want to edit)

Thanks for any help!

Here is a screen shot of the choices on the right hand side. They are there until I try to open the next set of windows.

Here is the file structure of my external HD (NOte I did copy to MBP to see if it was my external HD with the issue and same thing happens). There are many folders that should become available after the "edit" folder and nothing is there. Only the three videos show up. I have used Aperture for quite awhile and imported many projects and this is a new issue.

You may have a permissions problem with your jpegs. When you select one of the images in the Finder and open the "Info" panel (from the main menu bar. File > Get Info" and look at the data, what do you see?

  1. Is the "Kind" displayed as "JPEG Image"? if not, change the filename extensions to ".jpg".
  2. Do you have Read and Write access to the files? Disclose the "Sharing and Permissions" brick and unlock the padlock in the lower right corner of the panel. Then you can edit the permissions.
  3. If you not have done so, set the "Ignore Ownership on this volume" flag for your external HD. Select the drive in the Finder, open the "Info" panel and at the bottom of the panel you should see the "Ignore Ownership on this volume" flag.

So now I can at least see pics on my memory card, after running the permissions first aid listed above and removing the corrupt preference file.

However, the 3TB drive in my system (not my primary drive) has thousands of pics on it and the only thing aperture sees on that drive are videos.

I had no problems prior to upgrading.

I had no problems prior to upgrading.

I am glad I am not the only one!!! But it worked fine before upgrade also!

My file structure is same as yours and I also will only get movies to show up but I can click on other folders and the pics open fine. It is my edit folder like your import folder. I have a bunch of structure after it and nothing shows up.

I repaired permissions. I repaired libraries. I deleted user preferences. Still not showing up.

Also the "Move files" button is sporadically disappears.

Joseph Williams2 and amberlyn7,

that really looks like another bug in this release. Please send a bug report to Apple - use the feedback form in the main Aperture menu: Aperture > Send Aperture Feedback

Your screenshots do not show the fielnames of your image files - are they in any way unusual, containing ethnic characters, dots, white space?
