Apple Event: May 7th at 7 am PT
So I just got a Macbook Pro last week which is the 13 inch with 2.5 Ghz Intel Core i5, 4 GB 1600 MHz DDR3 and Intel HD 4000 graphics card and I just downloaded Tomb Raider: Underworld. For some reason everything runs fine, but once I actually start playing, the graphics are all black and yellow and I can barely see what I'm doing. What is causing this issue?

couple of issues.
first you only have 4GB of RAM.
second, your graphics card is integrated which is using part of your system RAM which is 4GB.
third, your cpu is driving your integrated graphics card and processing your game. that's asking too much for a 13' macbook pro with integrated graphics and 4GB of RAM.
see what apps you're running in the background and close all of them before you play your game and see if that fixes your issues.
Take it to the Apple store and have them look at it. What you describe is not normal. If you do it in 14 days of purchase, you can exchange it for a new MBP.

I am having the very same issue myself with the latest macbook air 13 with 8gb ram. I don't think theres any issue with the ram. Its mostly because of the terrible hd4000 driver support.
found a solution after some fiddling around. You have to change some of the visual settings. Go to main menu, audio/visuals, display settings- and then turn shadows off. This should solve the problem 🙂
I am still noticing some minor artifacts, but maybe thats just me 😕
I had same problem on macbook air 2012 13 with 8 GB of RAM. When I started to play, everything was wireframe. I went into video settings, pressed the restore to defaults button, and everything is fine. I does crash once in a while when saving a game. However, now I'm up to level 6 Jan Mayen Island and as soon as I get to the bottom, the game crashes every time. From the crash log it is related to HD4000. Hopefully updated drivers are coming soon...
Hey guys, I have mid 2012 MBP 13''. I have the same problem but when playing Diablo 3, it always freezes and I must power off the Mac by pressing the power button. I hope they update the Intel HD 4000 graphics driver soon.

Who needs to fix this? does apple need to update the HD4000 driver or does the creator of tomb raider need to add HD 4000 support
My Macbook Pro 2012 13" also has the same problem. Hope Apple roll out an update soon
Having read through posts down to Sethlution's, I am wondering if some of what posters describe (especially the freezing issue) is due to excessive heat because of the processor and graphics load that gaming requires. I found that using a cool pad (now a cooler master) fixed that issue for me.
At least with respect to Tombraider Underworld, I've been in contact with Feral and they can reproduce the issue on MBA 2012 hardware. So it is a known problem. I don't know if they've directly tied it to the HD4000 driver or not, but I do know that they've said that hardware without the HD4000 works fine.
Maxit I cant even play for 30s before it freezes, it cant overheat in just 30s. I believe the problem is the driver.
Macbook air 2012 4GB here. Similar problem playing frontline commando. System freezes and won't respond. I suspect the HD4000 graphics performance/drivers. Hope apple takes a look at the problem and rolls out new drivers.
