AirPort Express keeps losing it's connection on network

My airport express keeps disappearing. If i switch the power off/on it comes back, but it isn't reliably available to my other Apple devices. Any ideas?

Hi

Sorry let me elaborate.

I have Airport Express on my wifi network and i am using to stream music from Mac/iPad/iPhone to another room. It is set up ok, and have a green light.

Every so often when i try and select it from the Music app on my iPhone (for example) it isn't in the drop down list. If i turn the power off to the AirportExpress and back on, it then becomes visible and available to stream music through. It happens perodically and is getting annoying.

I also have AppleTV and that is always available in the streaming list, it is just Airport Express causing me trouble.

FYI I have v7.6.1 on Express.

thanks

I have now installed my new Airport Express Base Station and am experiencing the same issue you are describing in your post. I have set up my new AE as a network extender to play music from my iMac to my stereo. I was able to do so without any issues for many years with my very old AE.

Although both Airport Extreme and Airport Express are showing as green and connected in the airport utility, neither ITunes not Airfoil can see my new AExpress. This is an intermitent issue (the new AExpress will disappear for a while and then return giving me back my music!).

I am assuming at this stage that this is an issue with my brand new AExpress as I did not have this problem with the old AExpress :-(

Would welcome some advice and/or a fix from Apple

I'm experiencing a similar thing as desalaberry.

Bought a second Apple TV3 and an Arport Express Base Station to extend my Airport Extreme network.

Got the Extreme in our mainfloor livingroom and the Express in our downstairs livingroom.I set up the Express without any problems but after a couple of minutes it lost connection/stoped broadcasting signals, even though the green light was on.

I checked with airport utility, both on the mainfloor on my iMac and downstairs on a windows laptop. Same phenomenon all the time. Reboot the express, it works for a short period of time then "disapears" even though green light is on.

Tried to restore to factory settings and set up again.... same story; work for a few minutes and then disapere.

I think my next step will be to bring the Extreme Base station to the main floor to see if the same thing happens.

after that maybe try to experiment with 5Ghz setting.

Any more ideas folks?

Yes, I am having the exact same problem with my new Airport Express as well. I even returned one to the store and got a replacement because I assumed it was a hardware issue, but it has now happened with the second one as well. I am using it exclusively for streaming music and it will last anywhere from 3 days to 3 minutes before it starts flashing amber and loses the connection. I have tried resetting it, changing they way it connects to the network (extending vs. joining) and continue to have the same problem. I have an older generation Express in another room that is rock solid and have no issues with. THere is definitely something wrong with the new Express causing this problem.

Just made sure that I still have the receipt for the Express (phew, did not go out with the recycling).

Not 100% ready to go back to the store with it (mainly because the closest Future Shop is about 3 hours away).

I also know that my Extreme was a tad shaky in the beginning but then turned more stable. Sometimes i wonder if these things are organic😕.

...might also be a firmware fix in the waiting (fingers crossed)....who knows...

I have had the same issue. My airport express (AE) only dissapears from my Itunes and remote. The AE still can still be found from any other application that would use them on my phone or Ipad. Ex.. Utube, Spotify....

POR (Power off Reset) of the AE, POR of my Cisco, or stopping and restarting Itunes corrects it for a short period all with the same results. But it is happening most since I have downloaded the new Itunes 10.7.0.21.

It happend infrequently before this. But now happens so often my AE speakers are not usable with Itunes.

Suggestions?

Hi, I was experiencing the same issue. I constantly had problems to connect to my airport Express using the aiport utility. I noticed that sometimes when I turned off airport and back on again on my computer (to force it to reconnect to my network - OSX 10.8.2) Airport Utility was able to find my Airport Express...

The solution I found to this problem, so far, is to downgrade the Airport Express firmware to the 7.5.2 using the Airport Utility APP for iOS which was able to find my Airport Express instantly...

Once it was downgraded, no problems at all (except a little notificiation icon telling I should upgrade 😀).

Maybe this will help ?
