English

  1. I live in England. Can somebody tell me how to set these discussions so that they remember my local spelling either within preferences/profile or a bookmark? It does not remember what I select at the bottom of the page.

  2. I prefer to display 50 or more items per page. I can retain this setting in bookmarks for pages but would prefer a global setting - is there one?

  3. I prefer items to be displayed with latest at the top of the page especially as links and the back button often take me there rather than where they should. How can I set this?

Some of these were easy to set properly with the old site.

Hi,

Re 1)

I use Firefox and at the end of a Post I change to HTML mode to Add my Sig Stuff.

In this view/Mode the little red lines are evident and corrections will take place on a a Right Click and selection of the Correct word (or iWords can be added to the Dictionary such as iPad or iPhone)

I have never found a way of using the ABC/Tick icon to select British English permanently.

Re 2)

I am sure I set this somewhere as well but currently can't find it ( I looked in my Profile and Edit options)

Re 3)

You will have to explain that to me again as I am not following what it is you are looking for here.

HI,

Re 2)

Top right use the Your Stuff item

In the Box of stuff you are Shown select Discussions

In the page you are sent to you can alter the number of items per page

Put another way - I wish to sort in flat, reverse date order ie last post first because often links fail to take me to the correct post especially in multi-page threads - use of the back button rarely takes me back to the post I came from and sometimes not to the correct page in multi-page posts. Many forums support flat, reverse date order.

I wish Apple would stop forcing US 'English' upon me and refusing to accept my correct country in reply to their country questions - I come from England and prefer to use normal English.

Hi,

So once in a thread you wish to see the Latest Post at the top.

I use Threaded View (Set in my Profile > Edit Preferences option on the right)

Up to about 4 pages or replies it will stagger the replies off set to the right as the conversation progresses.

At about the 4 or 5 page mark there is a "Known" issue where using the Latest post link at the top of the thread does not always go to the exact Post.

I have noticed that the numbers sometimes run 1 through 9 and then list 8 again or other similar foibles.

The Hosts are aware of the issue but I must admit to not following closely any discussion on it recently.

There certainly is not any option to Filter the threads in any fashion.

Hi,

As you can see in my pic mine was set to 30.

In the Discussion View of any Community I do have 30 items to a "page"

Appears the same for iChat, Message Beta and this Community

I was "playing" with Flat and Threaded View and this thread is now appearing "Flat" when I have "Threaded" set.

Edit.

Seems I was distracted and didn't Save.

The threaded/flat option is remembered correctly for me but not the number of items per page.

In addittion to the multi-page bugs you mention I suspect that browsers cannot cope with this JavaScript form of page internal address: 18773729?ac_cid=op123456#18773729. Browsers work well for message anchors such as 18773729#3, 18773729#4 etc

Are you saying that messages cannot be displayed in reverse date order?

Hi

Yes.

On checking the page for Flat v Threaded I found I had been distracted and not Saved it.

I will experiment with changing the number I use and see if a new figure changes things

EDIT.

I seem to have managed to get mine to stay on 50 items from the Drop down and see it on returning to the Discussions option in my Profile > Your Stuff tab.

The chech abc spell checker is an annoyance for me too. There are several ways of getting to the X system spell checker. I click on html. System spell checker comes right up. Don't know how to force system spell checker.

I think that I read somewhere that you can create a javascript book mark to switch to system spell checker

HOsTS!!! My understanding is there is one bit that changes spell checkers. How is this so hard to fix? Give us an option? Isn't it mac os x GUI to use the system spell checker?

2. I prefer to display 50 or more items per page.

You can create book marks that specify the number of post in them ( use a legal number ). It thirty by default. Take bookmark. Edit bookmark to change count. Access discussion from bookmaker.
