I can not download iTunes on my brand new 64-bit Windows 7 laptop ("Windows Installer Error")

I just got a brand new 64-bit laptop with Windows 7. I have been able to download anything I want on it, but when I try to install iTunes on it I get an error message that says something about a Windows Installer issue, and to contact my support personnel. I already did that, and found that nothing was wrong with my Windows Installer. Does anyone know what I should do? This laptop has never had iTunes on it, so I don't have any existing old versions on it, or Apple Software Update.

iPod touch, Windows 7, iTunes

The text that I get is : "There is a problem with this Windows Installer package. A program required for this install to complete could not be run. Contact your support personnel or package vendor."

With that particular one, I'd try the following user tip:

My error message says, "The Windows Installer Service could not be accessed. This can occur if you are running Windows in safe mode, or if the Windows Installer is not correctly installed. Contact your support personnel for assistance."

This computer has never had iTunes on it, so the last post won't help me since I have no Apple software to delete.

I already contacted my support personnel and everything is perfectly fine. I'm able to download everything. Just not iTunes, which I pretty much NEED. 😟

Do you have a 64-bit version of Windows? If so, I'd try the following user tip:

"The Windows Installer Service could not be accessed" error messages when installing iTunes for Windows on 64-bit systems

THE SIMPLE ANSWER is to go to Apple.com and download a new iTunes as though it was never on your computer before. It will replace the previous version, and it will grab all the stuff that was in your previous version - songs, apps, whatever, and it will work like normal.

The other answer for Windows 7 is, you have to go to Tools in the download window that pops up when you say you want to update iTunes. Choose download manually. Navigate to the folder where it was stored (probably your "downloads" folder). Right click each of the downloaded files, and click Take Ownership. If you don't see "Take Ownership" there is a script for it here, attached to this message (it's reputable, don't worry about that) http://www.sevenforums.com/drivers/24790-leadtek-winfast-pvr2000-rtm-driver-4.ht ml You will see it is attached to the bottom of the message. Click to download it, and then unzip it. It will add "Take Ownership" to the right click menu.

Anyway, so, take ownership of each of the downloaded iTunes files and once you have done that, you should be able to click each file and have it open and install itself. You should be running as "Administrator" when you are doing this.
