I am trying to burn songs from my playlist. Everytime I do the error message comes up saying I must insert a CD/DVD and select a playlist which I did. Some of the songs are MP3 but most say they are AAC. Is it better to use a CD/R or a DVD/RW?

iTunes will not burn to a DVD. You'll will need to use a CD-R or CD-R/W disk. If you're burning an audio CD, CD-R tends to be more reliable than CD-R/W. Try a couple of different brands of disks and see if it makes any difference. If not, run the CD/DVD Drive Tests:
