iPod Touch (2G) TomTom Car Kit Issues

I have an iPod Touch (2G) and have been successfully using the TomTom Car Kit for all my navigation needs for the last 14 months.

Recently, around the same time they announced a "mandatory update to restore GPS signal" on their website, my TomTom app stopped receiving a GPS signal. Now when I contact TomTom support, they tell me that all their kit does is amplify the iPod's internal GPS receiver (???) and that this is an iPod issue. I have reset my iPod and reinstalled the app with no success.

Am I missing something?

iPod touch, iOS 5.1.1

There is no GPS circuits on the iPod touch. Period. For location the iPod uses the location of nearby wifi routers that are in Apple's database. See:

iOS 5: Understanding Location Services

Therefore what you were told does not sound reasonable for the iPod.

You are using the accessory that does include a GPS receiver, right?

I kept trying to tell tomtom that (worst customer support ever, by the way) - and finally had to cut and paste verbiage out of the iPod manual before they admitted their device was the issue.
