Have this reoccurring problem that when an icon in the dock is clicked it open a folder showing it's location instead of a opening the app.
A reboot will fix it, but it is getting annoying. Any idea what may be going on?

Your message says you have OS X 10.5.5 - is this correct?
If so why not go to Software Update and get a more recent version?
It may cure your problem.

Try this:
Move the following from Library/Preferences in your Home folder to your Desktop:
com.apple.dock.db
com.apple.dock.plist
Reboot and test
