corrupted file downloads

Hi all,

Trying to download files roughly 3 GB in size. They are zipped disk images of an installer package. First the disk images would not mount. I tried an old trick of logging out and back in on a guest account. That worked, and the files mounted. When I logged back in, the install failed. Logged out again, and back in as a guest. The install was successful.

Now, I have an upgrade disk image that repeatedly gets checksum errors, no matter how many times I download, and no matter which account I am in.

Anyone with a clue?

What makes you think its your fault? Could be a corrupt zip file produced by the sender. Is that zip publically available? Post a link if it is.

Thanks for the reply. I'm not saying it's my fault, Who knows? Too many moving targets here. There could be something amiss with my account setup or my permissions; I've seen similar problems attributed to Verizon FIOS (which I have) to the modems they use, I've seen aticles on CNET saying that this is specifically a Snow Leopard issue: http://reviews.cnet.com/8301-13727_7-10364288-263.html Nothing seems to help. Sometimes down;oads take, and sometimes they don't. It seems really weird that the only way I could install (Pro Tools 10) was to Login as a guest and install (using my admin password, of course).

Not my fault, but something seems really screwy with my system.

Sounds random to me at the moment. Guest or no guest account should not matter. The download couldn't care less. It's just a bunch of passive compressed bytes. Installation is a spearate problem and that might make a difference. But I assume you are still just having download problems.

Well... no. Last night I finally successfully downloaded the Disk Image-that is, I downloaded the file to my Macbook Pro downstairs and pulled it over to my desktop computer through my network. This time, the disk image opened, but it turned out, of course that the only way I could successfullyrun through the installation process was to log in as a guest again.
