No MIDI out when I play tracks from a .mid file

Im using Logic Studio 9

Mac Mini - Mid 2011

Lion 10.7.4

Open an existing project that used to work in Leopard on a G5

MIDI setup is same as original

multiple tracks are set to different channels

when I play the song, no MIDI is being output to my MOTU MIDI Express XT

is something not hooked up in my environment?

There is a multi-channel instrument there but it's not connected to anything...
