This is causing a big problem. i checked and one of my family members has the right settings, and minare different. Can someone tell me a WELLKNOWN and WORKING solution?

I really dont know... hmmmm. it should though, because all my other family members have iphone 3gs or ipod touch 4gs. mine is a 2g and it has always connected properly.

yes. the second one had something i thought would work, resetting the network settings, but it didnt. ive even tried restoring it! and im also not sure how to see the routers input, like ingo said to do.
im looking at it now and ive noticed that i can insert the settings that are correct if i hit "static". is this different than DHCP, and will it affect my ipods connection?
Yes you can enter your own settings. Dynamic Host Configuration Protocol (DHCP) is when the device get the settings from the router.
Just make sure that you use an IP address not used by other devices and the the DNS is valid. I would use Google's DNS, 8.8.8.8
So what you are saying is that when you check the IP address your iPod is using the address is not correct.
You are also saying you can enter a static IP address and your iPod connects...
What you need to do is check your router and determine if it is configured as a DHCP server or not. If the router is not configured as a DHCP server, then you MUST give each of your devices a unique static IP address.
If the router is configured as a DHCP server, then you need to configure your iPod to use DHCP.
how do i do that? i go into net/ and file sharing and look at settings, and stuff like this isnt there.
