Western Spanish keyboard issue...

I just bought a new iMac and ordered the Western Spanish keyboard with it. The symbols are typing something different than what they are. I am thinking there's an issue with the language settings? I can't figure it out. The symbols work as far as key position as if it were an American keyboard. Example, the hyphen key types a forward slash instead. Any help would be awesome! I've tried a lot of different settings and can't figure it out.
