BlackBerry Video Recovery?

Recovered video not playing?

So 2 days ago I acidentally deleted a really important video on my BlackBerry Bold. I installed some file recovery software and it found the video, but in order for it to be saved I would have to pay $89.. Then today I downloaded PhotoRec and it found the video for free! However, when I tried to play it I got a message that said "The Document "f0239285.mp4" could not be opened. The movie is not in a format that QuickTime Player understands." I downloaded and installed Perian, but it still won't play. The videos on my phone that weren't deleted work and play fine, if it makes a difference... Is there a way to get the video to play?

Thanks

~Elisabeth

Put the unplayable file and a few playable ones on the Desktop.

Open Terminal. Type

head -1 Desktop/f0239285.mp4

and press Return. You'll see the first line of the file.

Do the same thing for each of the playable files.

Compare the files headings. Playable files produced by the same device (the Blackberry, in this case) generally have similar/same file headings. They'll look something like this:

ftypqt qt moovlmvhd . . .

But if the file's corrupt, you'll probably see that the file starts with an indecipherable data stream along these lines:

s{ÇB`KA®Fdûå eKK3ã$ªèfl . . .

If it's corrupt, you'll need a recovery service that specializes in this kind of thing.
