iMovie audio and video out of sync...progressive

Hey,

Many people seem to have this problem but there appears to be no fix...

I used to use iMovie '09 and used to record a video, and then a separate audio file which I would then sync together to make a complete video with audio. It would sound and look great and would export just fine also.

NOW I upgraded to '11 and even though my video and audio will be in sync at the start of the video, the sync will become progressively worse, as if either the audio or video is track is playing faster/slower than the other.

WHY?!?!?

I can't do the "detach audio" fix as the audio is already detached....

Anyone??

I've had the same problem and I seem to have found a solution. The problem was with the frame rate. My clips had a frame rate of 30 fps while iMovie seems to be working with 29.97 fps. This isn't a huge difference but it's enough for things to go out of sync after a while. The solution is converting your clips to an exact frame rate of 29.97 fps (using a tool like Handbrake or similar) before importing them into your iMovie project. Hope this helps!
