This error code means exactly that -- file not found. This will happen, typically, when a file that's already loaded into Logic is deleted from the drive (i.e., trashing it from the Finder). When Logic goes to play, it can't find the file and generates that message.
But why it causes Logic to quit is a bit of a mystery. Usually when this message appears Logic will work fine, sans whatever audio file(s) are missing.
First do a search for the original file ("X") and make a backup copy of it ("Y").
Open your Logic song.
Try one of these potential solutions...
Thing-2-Try #1:
Load Y into Logic and place it on a new track. If it plays back, then great! If you've done edits to X then you'll have to re-create them manually on Y.
Thing-2-Try #2:
Close your Logic song. Move X to another drive or into another folder outside of your project folder (or even just to the desktop). Rename Y to be the same as X. Place now-renamed-Y into the same folder that X used to live in. Re-load the song and see if Logic finds the file.
Logic will try to register the files used in a session at launch. If it doesn't find it it prompts you to find it . Locate it. This is usually all it takes. Use manual find instead of search if you know where it is.
I've had the exact same problem sirgarret has -- the file's there, but Logic can't seem to see it, hence my advice.
However, sirgarret, if you are getting that dialog, do what Justin suggested.
One other thing: if you get that error message, sometimes deleting the fade files will eliminate the problem. You'll find this option in the Audio Window.
I'd recommend setting the record path to a diffrent one-this solved it for me once before. But save as project can help many things. You aren't running on a case sensitive volume, are you?
Case-sensitive volume? Wha? Oh yeah, case-sensitive journaling... I have no idea. I do recall, however, that when formatting my HD I was offered only one option. So whatever that option was is how it's formatted 😉
Case sensitive volume: Logic does not differentiate between 2 files in 1 directory of the same name but of different cases. For example:
File
file
Logic will only see one. I made the mistake of moving a big sample lib to a case sensitive volume around 7.1. Had to push it all back. So Logic only sees one even if there are 2 files-BIG problem.
It is one of the options when reformatting your disk, so this is a big source of confusion for many people, IMO. It can also cause big problems. Wouldn't you agree?
