My MacBook has only 1G memory. For upgrade to Lion (Mac OS 10.7) requires at least 2G memory. How do I accomplish this?

My MacBook with OS 10.6.8 has 1GB of memory. I would like to up date to Lion OS 10.7 (Lion) but it requires at leat 2GB of memory. Can the memory be increased?

MacBook (13-inch Mid 2007), Mac OS X (10.6.8)
