Every time I try to open an archive with extension .dmg, it opens the disk utilitary, what shall I do??? I can't even install a program dowloaded from the internet... Help, please.
iMac, Mac OS X (10.7.4)
Right click on a DMG file and choose Get Info
The Open with should be set to DiskImageMounter.app
If it is not then select it from the list and then select Change All
If it is alreadyt set to that post back
If it's an archive why isn't the extension xxxxx.dmg.zip? What did you mean by "archive?"
Archives come in many different flavours, rar, zip, sit etc. A .dmg is just another type of archive is all.
Do as frank suggested and you will have fixed the problem.

Perhaps technically, but .dmg is not ordinarily considered an archive format, it's a disk image. (I know about the others, but if the OP used file>compress -- and not at all clear that's what was meant by "archive" -- the default would have been to .zip.) The term "archive" in the OP's first post could have been eliminated with no loss of meaning; in fact it would have been less confusing.
My mac does not open .dmg archives anymore
