If you have iOS 5.1.1 installed (Settings > General > About > Version) then you have the most recent version of the built-in apps, including iTunes - if you aren't on 5.1.1 then you can either update via Settings > General > Software Update (if the iPad has iOS 5+ already installed) or via your computer'e iTunes.

thanx sooooo much. im sooooo not computer literate, but am trying, i had to ask that question cos someone asked me, and i couldnt find it anywhere on my ipad.i even looked where you have told me to go, why its not labelled as ( itunes version )instead of just (version) ??... ok, once again..thank you.
The value in Settings > General > About > Version is the version of iOS (i.e. the iPad's operating system). None of the built-in apps (iTunes, Safari, App Store, Music etc) can be updated on their own, they can only be updated by updating the whole operating system - so if you are on iOS 5.1.1 then your iPad's operating system is up-to-date, and therefore all the built-in apps are up-to-date.
kool! that is another thing i am happy to know..you are a great help. thanx again
