how do i move iphoto back into the dock?

so, i messed up trying to move iphoto to an external hard drive, after some help the ex hd is wiped clean just like new and i have managed to ensure my photos are stil on my imac, hoorah! but in the process i disconnected iphoto from the application, but i got them back together again, so iphoto is in finder like new. only now i would like it back in the dock where it belongs. can anyone help, i am sure i knew how to do this once but have since forgotten. part two of my question is that iphoto now has no backups for browsing on time machine....any ideas?

Start iPhoto and the icon will appear in the dock. Right click the icon and select, Options > Keep in Dock.

i got so excited that it was that simple, then i remembered my mouse isn't set up for right click drop down menus and theres not anything like 'options' in the blue bar at the top... whats the alternative?

Hold the Control key down as you click, this will produce the secondary click (Right click).

Edit: You can enable secondary click in System Preferences > Mouse.

before i go... in all teh mess that ensued previously i had thrown iphoto into the trash as for a moment i thought i had saved it successfully to the ex hd. you know how the story ends but i still have a copy of i photo in the trash, if i empty that it won't affect the one one now sitting happily in the dock will it??

You can empty the trash, it won't affect the one that the dock icon points to.
