Printing using a Sharp MX2600 without PostScript 3?

My work is using a Sharp networked printer and it doesn't have PostScript 3 installed. I've managed to work around settings to get my computer (Mac Pro running OSX 10.6.8) running B/W prints, but is there any way to get it printing in color?

Mac Pro, Mac OS X (10.6.8), Sharp MX2600

It does have HP PCL6 standard, so you may be able to connect with HP JetDirect .

It appears that Sharp did not write a specific driver for the non-Postscript version of that Printer for Mac OS X. All the versions I saw OS 9 and 10.2 to 10.7 require Postscript.

That looks like an extraordinary high-end printer. Your work should install the Postscript emulation package to get access to all the additional graphics stuff that Printer could do. Not just for Macs, but for all high-end graphics.

You could also use Open Printing, by downloading and installing this Open Source package which works under Mac OS X:

The package uses Ghostscript to emulate Postscript printing, then rasterizes and sends the results using PCL. The package contains pxlcolor as well, for color printing to PCL printers. The Sharp 2300N and 2700N are both listed as supported.

Sorry for being so confused, but do you know what settings I would use with this version? I am currently basically 'fooling' the system by switching the driver to Generic PCL Laser Printer, I saw on another question that a person advised to switch it to this or Generic PostScript, but the Generic PostScript setting wouldn't funciton either. If you could help me out with these settings it would be very helpful.

Thanks so much.

Sorry to highjack this thread, the previous one I posted is now archived.

I am having the same problem with the MX2600N copier, I can get B&W working by using the Open Printing drivers, but for whatever reason it won't do colour. I have disabled authentication on the copier (which was on for colour, but isnt now), and still no luck.

Has anyone managed to get colour printing to the MX2600n machine?
