Select the stuff to be copied. Its background will be shown in the highlight color, often pale blue but configuarble. [If not sure how to Select, try dragging over the text you want.]
Select Copy from the File Menu. This places a copy of the selection onto the Clipboard.
Move to the destination document. Click at the spot where the text should be inserted. The Insertion point should be come a Vertical bar with small foot and hat.
Choose Paste from the File menu. This inserts the contents of the clipboard at the insertion point. [ a variation on this is to select text to be replaced, and when you say paste the selection will be overwritten by the contents of the Clipboard.]
You can also effect a Move by Selecting, Cutting (instead of just Copying) and Pasting at the destination as above.
