IT DOESNT SHOW UP ON MY COMPUTER OR ITUNES BUT IT DOES CHARGE

I plug it in, and it charges but my computer doesnt register it nor does itunes. My boss ownes an auction and he gave it to me, so its used. I have another Ipod, that I have connected to this computer and my computer and itunes have recognized it, so I dont think its the itunes program.
