Have you ever made any Time Machine or other backups of your entire harddrive contents?  If so, do you have an old system save from a date near or a few weeks before the loss of the apps in question?  Or shortly after you acquired the versions in question?  After you back up your current system data and configuration, you could reload the old system from that date and restore your apps on the iPod to the time in question.  Of course you may also take any progress in any games you've played since on the iPod back to that date as well.  I'm no expert in that realm I'm afraid.

Alternately (in fact I think this may work better), you could still use the restore from that date, boot up your computer, copy the apps in question from the apps folder (I don't know your OS so not sure where iTunes stores them--so you'll have to track them down yourself with a system Search) and burn them onto a CD or flash drive, remove the media, then restore your system to its current configuration. Then load the older apps as I described in my previous post.  This way you may still yet save the day, and not lose any of your current game progress or apps you've since downloaded.

So does this mean we get a free upgrade to 4th Gen or 5th Gen?

I really disagree with not being able to get apps that isn't my version of my ipod, If you going to make a new operating system leave the old versions for ipods that can't download the newer ones derp? Like *** why are you going to try to rip us off like that, If I wanted to get the new ipod I would so stop trying to make me get it. -.-

    PairoDocs,

Thanks for the informative responses. I was able to rescue the old compatible *.ipa files from a system back-up and replaced them right in the Users:name:Music:Mobile Applications folder. Since the apps had been auto deleted from the Gen 2 iPod Touch I didn't know how to get iTunes to recognize the old versions for installation. Clicking on the *.ipa file did the trick. Thanks again for the helpful information.

    Cheers,

    Steve

Thank you PairoDocs for taking the time to address this question. I am totally Apple illiterate and your post helped me a bunch and it was easy to understand.

So i'm still a bit confused. I always get lost when it comes to Apple products. What if you don't have a second devide like an iPad or a different generation of iPod touch? Would this still work?

Which version of iOS are you running?  If it is 4.2.1, then that is as high as a 2nd gen can go.

It is really disappointing me.... Hearing that 4.2.1 is the only upgrade my 2nd gen ipod touch could get.

I cant download any app from the app store!

It feels like the day i bought my ipod was the darkest day of my life because the next day itself 3rd gen ipod was available in the market!

    Now i feel sad.

Cant do anything else... other than sharing my problem with you guys...

Now My ipod is really LIMITED!!!!

Yeah it is a real blow well I guess the only thing you can do is buy the new Ipod 5gen and that's exactly what apple is trying to get us to do it's all part of their scam to get us buying their new products.
