Q: The Update iTunes 10.6.3 can't be installed on 24" iMac. It is needed, however, to update and sync iPod and iPad. What to do?

The iTunes Update downloads with the following comment: "The digital signature for this package is incorrect. The package may have been tampered with or corrupted since being signed by Apple."

What does that mean?

Apple sends an Update that can't be installed. Why?

Is there another way to update iTunes?

and download iTunes...

I had this problem, but it was worded slightly differently (it only partially downloaded, so that might be why). I emptied the contents of /Library/Updates and reran Software Update and it worked the second time for me.
