Playing tv shows purchased on apple tv 2nd generation on apple tv 1st generation
Is there any way I can view tv shows previously purchased on my atv 2nd gen. at a later stage using my old atv 1st gen.?

You would have to download them in iTunes and then sync or stream them to AppleTV1.
Ensure you only download 720p or less as it won't handle 1080p.
In iTunes, got ot the store homepage, and in QuickLinks on the right there shoudl be a Purchased section which will list content available to download.
AppleTV1 does not know about iTunes in the cloud so cannot access them directly from the internet like an AppleTV2 or 3.
