I have no cell data with 3G enabled, but I have edge with it off. (iPhone 4S)

Hello everyone,


My issue started 2 days ago and I can't seem to figure this out. I lost my 3G connection to the cell towers. I thought that the service was just having problems here and ignored it. After a while when I did not get it back and found out from a friend that he never lost 3G, I started investigating. If I disable 3G under Settings > General > Network > Enable 3G, I get edge, I have data but it is painfully slow. If I flip 3G back on I have no indicator next to my signal strength meter, and I have absolutely no cell data not even edge. Any ideas why my phone is not getting 3G or anything with 3G enabled? I have a 4S with 5.1.1



Here is what I have done to attempt to resolve this issue so far.


1. Restarted my phone, with both normal method, and with holding both home and lock untill the apple logo appeared. This did not fix my issue.

2. Reset all network settings. This did not work.

3. Backed up my phone and restored from backup. This did not fix it.

4. Restored my phone as a new device, thinking maybe a bad setting was in the backup.

5. Asking you for help here.

Thanks for the reply Allan, Maybe I shoud have mentioned this before but I am in Saudi Arabia using STC. I have tried to get in contact with them, they dont answer the calls during prayer time and I have been disconnected because I went into their prayer time. Also even following their prompts for english about 75% of the time I get a non english speaker.

Just an update, I finally got through to STC, and got an english speaker. They said that everything is good on my account, nothing that would keep me from getting 3G. He went on to say that they have no known network issues in my area.


I know this is not linked to one tower because my work is about a 35 min drive from my home and I experienced the same issue in both locations. This further makes me think its my phone messing up, or a something with the software.
