Q: Mac IIsi won't shutdown

Is the 3.6 V logic board battery OK?
One can always try to reset the PRAM to see if it makes any difference.

Starting with the Shift key depressed would switch off all extensions.
One should perhaps not completely rule out the possibility that the hard disk driver software (from the formatting utility) could have something to do with the problem.

Jul 3, 2012 2:57 PMby be236,I dont remember,I think it was able to shutdown properly with another hard drive (not Apple HD), but that HD died after many years in garage storage. So I replaced it with this 2GB drive and had to format it using 3rd party HD app.
Keyboard should be okay, works with other Macs to shutdown.
No, the logic board battery is dead (it's been over 10 years this Mac). Reset PRAM? Okay, maybe I can try that.
Yeah, I wonder if it's the hard disk driver... nuts.

Jul 3, 2012 3:30 PMby Jan Hedlund,Drive Setup 1.7.3 is perhaps not absolutely ideal in this case, but it accepts a broader range of drives than Apple HD SC Setup.
It may or may not be possible to use Drive Setup 1.7.3 or Apple HD SC Setup 7.3.5 to update a previously installed driver. When starting from a floppy containing a disk utility, you could try to hold down the four keys Command(Apple) + Option(Alt) + Shift + Delete(Backspace).
A bad battery can sometimes cause strange effects.
