why cant i see any sent messages on my ipad,i know they are being sent
the messages get sent ok ,but there is nothing showing in the sent mail folder

The email needs to be a IMAP account instead of a POP which is something you would need to get in contact with your email provider to do. If you switch the account to IMAP it should start working.
