okay, when i try to download a free app from itunes it asks my aplle ID and when i enter it gives the msg "this apple id has not yet been used with the itunes store". I thought i could use my apple ID on itunes, am i missing something? why am I being directed to open an itunes account when i already have an appled ID? Thx.

An "Apple ID" is not the same as an iTunes account. You can have multiple Apple IDs. An iTunes account requires not only an Apple ID, but providing location and billing info. iTunes stores are country specific, and you can only purchase items from the store where your billing address is located.

What's amazing is that you posted a "solution" that has absolutely nothing to do with the topic of this long dormant thread. The support article discusses how to use an Apple ID that already IS associated with an iTunes account.

I am assuming i am getting this message because the apple id apple requires me to have to use my ipad mini is not an apple ID known to itunes.

So it seems that not only do i have to disclose my email to apple to operate my own ipad mini i also have to disclose my account information to them so i can get a free application to run!

I just spent hours trying to get this thing to work...............does it need to be so ********???

You don't have to do anything. If you want to use the merchandise in the Apple digital store (free merchandise or not-so-free), you will need to provide certain information.

You use the term "account information." That implies that you understand the nature of the term "account." In order to use your Apple ID account, you will need to provide the required information.
