I did apologize for last night, which I will eat like a lion now.
I was angry with Sprint, and the lack of candour from the experts on this site.
Let me say then that the following are this site's experts advice for how to deal with basic property rights -:...... "Only Sprint can Help", "Call Sprint", "Ask Sprint", "Call Your Congressman." Great advice. Thanks. I am bowled over by your amazing breakthroughs.
Not really a breakthrough. It's posted on the Apple website:
iPhone: About unlocking - Support - Apple -

Follow these instructions to initiate the unlocking process for your iPhone:
- Check if your carrier offers unlocking. Only your carrier can unlock your iPhone.

- May include an additional fee or requirement. Contact carrier for more information.
- Carrier supports receiving U.S. government alerts through CMAS (Cellular Messaging Alert System). See this article for more information.
- FaceTime over Cellular requires iOS 6. Some users may notice decreased performance on some carriers while using FaceTime over Cellular on 2G networks.
- Only certain carrier data plans support this feature. Contact your carrier for more details.
- Carrier offers unlocking on certain iPhones, some with certain restrictions. Contact your carrier for more details.
Lose the attitude, Granny. The fact that YOU are not knowledgeable about the rules & regulations is irrelevant. And while the iPhone is your property, the cellular service IS NOT. You are free to use your iPhone however you wish, for anything except making cellular phone calls and using cellular data or cellular-based messaging. Feel free to use wi-fi for this device.
You agreed to Sprint's terms and conditions. Did a salesperson lie to you? Then go to the store in question and complain to management.
Had you purchased the device from Apple directly, you could have had a totally unlocked iPhone. But you bought a contract-based iPhone, at a $400-500 discount.
So, go to the carrier you want to use, and get another iphone from them at the same discount. You'll still be spending less than having bought an unlocked iPhone from Apple. And this time, get it in writing from someone in authority.
Your issue is with Sprint. Don't bring your baggage in here.
Caveat emptor.

Jun 15, 2014 11:36 PM in response to tariqiphone4sby GB4Apple,Have iPhone 4s with Sprint for over two uears and i called them to request them to unlocked it, at the beginig they said that it can be only done for international use but I told them that is my phone and paid for it and Sprint has no right to force me to only use my device with them and the agent transfered me with someone else and told me that I was right and it can be unlocked as long as you fulfill the requerements of being in no contract, current in payments and becasue I met the requirement they unlocked for me so now I can use it anyway I want. The representative from Sprint was pretty friendly and gave me the unlock code and then I had to conect my iPhone to iTunes back it up and restore it again, once this is done apple or Itunes will give you a message that your iPhone has been succesfully unlocked and now I'll try to activate it with another carrier to see if it works! I hope this can help! i think after we complete the agreement with our carrier and paid for our device the carrier should give is the freedom to do whatever we want since we own our device
