Apple TV Remote .vs. iMac Remote

I have two remotes one of them which I have been using for my iMac and I purchased a apple TV today and the remote from Apple TV is automatically syncing with my desktop and it's annoying. I don't want to disable my remote for iMac and want it unique for my apple tv remote should be unique for my apple TV. Is there a way I could do. FYI - distance for both the machines is less than 20 feet.

Apple TV (3rd generation), Mac OS X (10.7.4)

Yes. Pair one remote to the Mac, pair the second remote to the Apple TV.

For the Mac, it's in System Preferences > Secruity & Privacy > click the padlock and authenticate to unlock > click the Advanced... button > Pair button.

Now pair the other with the Apple tv and each will only control one device.

Yes, on Apple TV it's in Settings > General > Remotes > Pair apple remote.
