iPhone 3GS Restore Error code 2009

Hi,

I am having on-going issues trying to restore a iPhone 3GS to it's original settings. I keep getting Error code 2009.

Details are as follows:-

  • iTunes version 10.6.3.25
  • iPhone OS version 5.1.1
  • Platform Windows Vista

Log file is located here.......http://pastebin.com/bEmqayJb

On occasions, I can get the restore past the usual point where is would generate the error message, which then gives me the Apple logo on my phone, before iTunes then stops working (usual "something went wrong, checking for solutions Vista message).

I have tried all of the suggested solutions on the Apple support site but to no avail, after several attempts still getting the error message or hanging issue with iTunes.

Any help greatly appreciated.

Many Thanks

Matt

hello,

my name is alyn jones.

are you using an original iphone cable or is it a third party cable?

also what security software are you running on your computer.

it sound to me like the is either conflict with the cable or conflict with security software which is causing the cabe to stop resonding thus giving you an itunes error code.

Alyn,

Thanks very much for your reply and help.

I have now tried 3 different USB iPhone cables (all are genuine) and now 2 different computers but the same problem still persists.

I have de-installed my security software (was AVG) and stopped both Windows and third party Firewall from operating.

The latest attempt I made seemed to get over the stage that error 2009 or 21 appears and loads the Apple logo on my iPhone, but then, as before, soon into the apparent restore crashes my itunes, first saying "itunes has stopped working" then giving me no option but to click cancel which then closes itunes.

The log file for this particular failed restore is here......http://pastebin.com/RumScetu

I hope this further information is of some help!

Is there someway that I can restore an older version of the software - is the 5.1.1 version causing the issues do you think? If so, how can I get itunes to download and then use this older software?

Many Thanks in advance.

I suggest trying Apple's troubleshooting steps: http://support.apple.com/kb/TS3694#error2009.

The other advice you have gotten is incorrect. FIRST, you cannot install iOS 4.1 without hacking your phone. That will fail, and you will be no wiser. As the above tip says, the most likely cause is your antivirus or firewall software blocking the update. The other possible cause is you are not connecting the phone directly to a port on your computer, but using a hub instead. Don't use a hub, and if it's a desktop or tower computer use a USB port on the back rather than the front.

Thanks for your help guys - much appreciated.

I will give the 4.1 restore a go tomorrow - nothing to lose right?! If it doesn't work then i'm no better off than I was!

Like Alyn said - I have ceased or de-installed all third party anti-virus and firewall, software and done my best to de-activate all of similar programmes from Windows (Defender, Firewall etc). I have also used 3 different USB ports on my laptop and 2 on my netbook.

In answer to the progress of the bar below the Apple logo - if it does come up (not always) it will show about 1-3% progress before iTunes crashes. I am also running iTunes version 10.6.3.25.

Thanks again fella's.

Sure sounds like a computer or iTunes problem more than iPhone problem. But anyway, I like the idea of trying to Restore to 4.1 Here is the 4.1 directly from the Apple Server.

The only problem I see is that even when Apple Signs this Firmware, there will still be a Baseband mismatch, so you will probably get an Error. But this will be good, a new Error. Then you can try to Restore to the Current IPSW. I would also re-install iTunes on computer, and I would remove the current IPSW from your computer so iTunes can download a new copy.
