My podcast artwork isn't appearing on iTunes

Hi all,

I've noticed this happening a lot with podcasts I subscribe to on iTunes also,

It's been like this more a couple of months now. I still can't work out how to fix it.

I upload my podcasts via Cyber Duck and have never had this problem before.

I read somewhere that the iTunes spec for artwork has recently changed from 600 x 600 to 1400 x 1400 (is this pixels?) If I change that, should it fix this issue?

Before uploading, I always attach the artwork to the MP3 via iTunes. As well as having the artwork on our podcast server, encoded at the start of the XML text in the podcast overview section. Is this good practice?

Many thanks,

Sam

Your artwork should be 1400 x 1400 but I don't think iTunes actually rejects smaller artwork.

The 'itunes:image' tag in the top section of the feed carries the image which appears in the iTunes Store. The images which appear when subscribing and selecting an episode have to be actually embedded in the image file. There is no point in having 'itunes:image' tags within the episode entries.

It's not possible to comment further unless you would like to publish the URLs of both your feed and the Store page - this latter can be found by control-clicking on the podcast image (or where it should be) - and choosing 'Copy link'. Please include the http:// in both cases to make the links clickable.

Thanks Roger,

My podcast store page: http://itunes.apple.com/gb/podcast/picturehouse-podcast/id393128786?mt=2

My podcast feed: http://podcasts.simplicityphotography.co.uk/picturehouse-podcast/picturehouse_po dcast.xml

The thing I find really odd, is that the image was fine until a couple of months ago - do you know why that would be?

Many thanks for your help.

The feed in use is actually http://feeds.feedburner.com/PicturehousePodcast which is presumably based on the feed you linked to.

There is an image correctly referenced in the feed and present on the server, so there's nothing you've done wrong. The Store does do these odd things sometimes, and it may just be a question of waiting. However I would recommend you create a 1400 x 1400 version of the image and substitute that: give it a new filename or the Store will have no way of knowing it's changed. It will take at least a week for it to appear.

The image appears when subscribing and having downloaded the latest episode.

If not, you can try emailing the podcast team with your 1400 x1400 podcast image

You mean as an attachment (which I doubt would be welcomed) or just the URL? In any case the the new image needs to be in the feed before anything else can be done, and then it's a matter of getting the Store to update from the feed and cache the new image (this is likely to take some days even when things are working properly).

Asking the Store Support staff to get the feed updated might help, but they are just as likely to send a form response explaining how to add an image (which everybody knows).
