Thanks for that, now I know this is not really Apple related but does anybody know a way to boost wifi signal significantly? Or even get the router close enough to iMac to use ethernet cable.
I thought about a really long telephone wire but that either doesn't work or slows the connection down even more.

I have numerous things in my room that connect to the internet; iMac, iPad, iPhone, Xbox 360, PS3, partner's phone, so it really does need a boost.

    Thanks.

Some layouts need a couple of wireless routers. Often the cable or ISP provider will connect one near where the service comes in the house. You can either run another ethernet wire and add wireless where you need it, or if your primary wireless is an Apple product (Airport, Time Capsule) then you can get another airport (extreme or express, or TC) and extend the network wirelessly. This works!
