Retina Macbook Pro gets error "CPU does not meet minimum requirements. Streaming SIMD extensions support required."

I had an early 2011 Macbook Pro, had installed Crossover (Windows emulator based on Wine) and Gray Matter. Everything worked perfectly, including sound. Then my Mac was stolen. I just got a new computer - one of the new Retina Macbook Pros. I recovered everything via TimeMachine. Gray Matter worked but there was no sound.
When the game loaded I got the following error message in a pop up box labeled "Microsoft xAudio2"
"CPU does not meet minimum requirements. Streaming SIMD extensions support required."

I trying reinstalling the directsx via the Manage Bottles\ Applications menu. The same error was encountered during the install. Then on the advice of Crossover support, I archived the bottle, deleted it and reinstalled. Same results.
Then Crossover sent a software upgrade notice, so thinking it might help I applied up update. Same results.
So I completely deleted the game and Crossover and reinstalled everything from scratch. Same errors during install, but now the game won't even load. Also notice someone else got same error with another game on the Cross over forums.

I also found this link http://www.facepunch.com/showthread.php?t=1013919 from 2010 for the exact same error - the gist of it is, they are saying its a processor issue, a bad chip. I called Apple support and they are saying it the software.

Only difference in my seup is the hardware. Same operating system - Lion.

Anyone have a clue whether its hardware or software related? I can't believe the new Intel chips don't support their own SIMD extensions.

Remember, your retina is using the latest Ivy Bridge CPUs. The software you are trying to run may not even support those CPUs (properly). I would contact the developer of the software and ask if the latest Ivy Bridge chips are supported. Apple isn't going to touch this one with a 50 foot pole.

In case anyone else runs into this. Crossover indeed had a problem. Apparently the Ivy Bridge procesor has a significant number of new features. The code didn't have enough storage allocated to store them all. Crossover supplied me with a fixed dll which will be included in the next update.

Crossover is built on Wine, I do not know if this issue affects only Crossover or also Wine.

Hi Benjiman,

I'd be happy to share the solution. Go over to the Codeweavers site, in the support ticket area. They posted the anwser and zip file with the ticket. There are complete install instructions. In case the link doesn't work the ticket number is 897883, or search for Ivy Bridge. Good luck
