Why don't subsidiary mail accounts work in iCloud?

I have OS X 10.5.8 on my Macbook, and although my main mail account works OK since the advent of iCloud and the disappearance of MobileMe, my 3 subsidiary accounts don't work at all. They are important to me and my wife! Is it true that subsidiary accounts will not work unless I upgrade to OS Lion? I have tried changing the settings for incoming mail (to imap.mail.me.com) but they keep on bouncing back to mail.mac.com -- and the subsidiary accounts stay locked.

Thank you Roger. yes, I meant Email accounts only. Have done what you suggest -- and hey presto! All seems to work OK on my existing Mail prog. Just one other thing -- Apple help suggests I should change my incoming mail settings (for incoming mail) to imap.mail.me.com from mail.mac.com -- tried that, but the settings kept on flipping back to mail.mac.com. Seems OK as it is -- best to leave well alone?

Apple have confused the whole situation by recently saying that people who take the 'email only' migration option don't need to change any settings in Mail (after saying several different things elsewhere).

If it's working, I should leave it alone. If it stops working, go through the process detailed in my page:

Entering iCloud email settings manually in Snow Leopard or Leopard
