How do you connect the Sony DSC-HX30V camera to the iPad?

My iPad does not "see" the camera in the network choices. Wondering what I'm doing wrong. Help! Thanks!

I'm trying to connect using the camera's wifi function. When I'm viewing my photos on the camera viewer, I have an option to upload to my smartphone. I've tried to upload to my iPhone and my iPad. I get the same message on my camera: "connection to target device impossible. Only 1 device can be connected at once" then I have the option to reset the password or exit. I do have only one device connected, so I don't understand why I'm getting this message. I've tried resetting the password and reconnecting, but I get the same message.

It's the phone that needs to connect to the camera directly - see http://esupport.sony.com/US/p/model-home.pl?mdl=DSCHX30VB&template_id=1&region_i d=1&tab=manuals# and Bullminator's comment at http://www.amazon.com/Sony-Cyber-shot-DSC-HX30V-DSC-HX30-Protectors/dp/B007JJQH2 U

That is, the camera works entirely in server mode, you don't need to connect to anywhere from the camera.

Hi everyone,

Thank you so much for your help. I was finally able to upload my photos to the iPad. What threw me off was the error message that I got. Actually, the message seems to be always there, and is not really an error message. It should probably read "IF connection...". That's what didn't make sense to me because I could see the camera network on my iPad network connections. So, here is what I did:

1. From the camera viewer (not the shooting mode), press on the menu button.

2. In the menu, select wifi>view on smartphone>share image (or any of the 2 other options)

3. On the iPad or iPhone, go to settings>network, and select your camera

4. Enter password that is shown on your camera viewer -- you only need to do this once.

5. On the iPad or iPhone, launch "PlayMemories Mobile" (you have to download this app from the app store).

6. The transfer of photos happens automatically.

Again, thanks everyone!

Louise

One more thing that might help some people. Once you do establish the connection the first time, you will be asked if PlayMemories Mobile is allowed to modify your photos. Say "yes". If somehow you manage to say "no", you won't be able to save the pictures from the camera to the iPhone. To remedy this, go to Settings > Privacy > Photos > PlayMemories and turn request access to On.

Help! This worked fine the other day. All my photos loaded themselves onto my iPad 2's IPhoto. I squealed with delight.

I am doing the same thing today and now suddenly getting that error message that "Target device is impossible," but I'm not connected to a 2nd device! Grrrrr.

It worked without Playbook memories (or whatever it's called) the other day. Was that just a one-off to get me excited! I don't wasn't to download some other poxy app when I love my iPhoto! (I am whining because I am frustrated!)

Thanks for any help (-:

If your still having problems using Sony cybershot wifi connection to mobile device I have found the solution. "Target device is impossible" is just a option, not an error. so dont worry about it. you must disable your 3g/4g/LTE on your mobile device. It is interfering with the connection that your devices are trying to make. Then simply open your play mobile app to view photos.

I just can't seem to figure this thig out! I just purchased a Sony DSC-HX50V camera and it arrived yesterday. I donloaded PlayMemories from the iTunes store and installed it on my iPad 2. I have a bunch of images on the data card on the camera that I would like to transfer to my iPad using wifi. When I open the app I get the message "Error Search the shooting device from the network settings of the terminal and set it". I hit ok and it tries to returns a screen that says "Search the shooting device from the network setting of the terminal and set it". A version of the original message.

I ASSume that I have to get the camera to be recognized by my network but can't seem to see HOW.

Sorry for being such a dufus.

When I connect the camera to my iPad with the supplied USB cable it works just fine (obviously). I would like to use the wifi function.

Can anyone help, please?

Thanks,

Harvey

Try this, it worked on mySonyAction cam HDR-AS30V. I had the same problem connecting.

First make sure you have the latest version of Playmemories, go to settings on iPad, pick WiFi the chose network Direct-(whatever your device id is), wait till it's checked, then open Playmemories app, transfer images.

I suppose one must connect Apple device to Sony device every time.

Hope this works.

Let me know if it works.
