Macbook Pro (2012) Wifi Signal Strength Question

Besides Speedtest.net. Is there another site to test out your Wifi The former website gives me alot of fluctuations from the available servers on my MBP. On my iPad it's pretty consistent. I don't know if I have antenna problems.

I did connect an Ethernet directly to the router and was great levels, 9MB/s down and up 1MB/s.

I just want to do more testing before returning it for a new one or if there is something else I can do. The PING is consistently at 40.

I thought we went over this the other day. For some reason your present MBP does not get a good signal, that seems to be clear. You could take it in and they will test it and say it is OK because it does get a WiFi signal and then do nothing for you for as far as they, Apple, is concerned there is nothing wrong.

You need to RETURN your present system and get another. And keep doing that until you get one that actually works like your other devices, as far as signal strenght.

Or you can keep the one you have and post this type of question over and over again until it is to late to return it for full refund.

Lex- I am embarrassed- I should know to have coffee before trying to think and read well in the morning...

BB: what was your weather last night? There have been some vivid wild electrical storms, and I cannot help but wonder if that can interfere? Were you testing the other systems simultaneously? Or they had worked faster, say, before the storm hit?

Other things, like hair and clothes dryers and micro-wave ovens can interfere with receptions...

Then that can be the browser or some other part in the chain from site to ISP to your router to the WiFi in the router to the WiFi to your computer to the hardware and or software in your computer.

Not sure but doing speed tests on phones or pads may be slightly different then doing them on a computer. I never judge my overall speeds from my phones WiFi connection at my home. In fact I've never bother even doing a speed test on my phone. Don't have a pad so I have no idea on that.

Originally I thought it was the signal strength that was the problem. So just disgrard all my posts on this subject. Your computer is fine.

BTW BB, when you click the little Airport icon in the menu bar while holding the Alt(Option) key it will show more information about the connection.

If the Linkspeed is not consistent, you may have interference on the WiFi channel that is used: telephones and other equipment are on the same (radio)band 2.4 GHz. You can try and set the channel as far away as it is now, eg when it is on 11 set the Channel to 1 or 2.

Here it the final outcome. Thanks for all your assistance.

1. It is not the MBP. It was the router. I had a Verizon modem gateway linked to a D-Link DIR-628 which was providing wireless internet. The Dlink was the issue. I was on the phone with their support and determined the router was defective for wireless service.

2. I enabled the Verizon modem for wireless service and the signal is now fine though the house.

3. Alot of troubleshooting but glad it is not the MBP.
