I have Mac OS X V 10.5.8 with Word mac 2008. When I try to save documents from my corporation's website, they are saved as a series of symbols. How do I save them so I can use the templates?

How do I save a document from the website of the corporation for which I work to my version of word. I have spent untold hours trying everything. My coworkers who PCs have no problems.
