I recently purchased a Mac Mini at the Apple store. I'm using an Apple bluetooth keyboard and trackpad. Problem is, when the mini goes to sleep, it won't wake back up. Nothing I can do apart from a hard restart by pressing the start button will wake the computer up. I don't know what to do to fix this. Is it something in settings?

Check System Preferences>Bluetooth>Advanced & see if Allow Bluetooth Devices to wake this Computer is checked.

SMC is the System Management Controller that handles Sleep, Wake, & other things!
If the light is pulsing that means the hard drives are sleeping and the Mac mini has entered full sleep. If the light is solid white and monitor is off, it sounds like you may want to take a look at enabling a preference setting that turns the screen on at wake. Found this guide that goes into more detail and tells you how to do it using terminal.
