ipod continues to ask to be restored
I have reset the ipod 5th generation several times. I can hear the hard disk spin down.
I have restored it 3 times in a row.

Hearing the Hardisk is bad, you should only hear music from the iPod.
Do the iPod Disk diagnostic as posted by tt2, it wont fix your problem, but help in troubleshooting.
iF you might get high numbers in Realloc, Pending, Start/Stops, max Temperature, then it is time to replace the hardisk.
