Q: Downloading apps stuck on waiting...

For the past few days I've been unable to download any apps from the App Store on my iOS devices, including the iPad and iPhone. I click "install", it asks for my password, it goes back to the home screen and the icon pops up and it says "waiting…" underneath, and then nothing ever happens. It's just stuck on waiting forever. It's basically what you would expect would happen if the store was down or my internet was down, except neither is the case.

I called Apple support and the only thing they had to offer was to do a factory reset on both my iPad and iPhone. I'd rather not do that because it's a pain. Plus, how can it be a hardware problem when it's happening on BOTH of my devices? It sounds like a problem with my account on their end, but they had no idea.

Has this happened anybody else? Anybody have any ideas?

For the record, I can still download apps onto my computer in iTunes and then sync those apps to my devices, I just can't download apps directly from my devices. Very strange.

Thanks for any help you guys can offer! =)

    Hi..

    Try this on one device...

Tap Settings > General > Reset > Reset All Settings

Then restart the device >  Hold the power button until "slide to power off" appears.  Slide to power off.  After it is off, press the power button to turn it back on.

That just resets your settings to default, you will not lose any media.

If it works on one device, then try on the other.

If that doesn't help, tap Settings > General > Reset > Reset Network Setttings

Then restart. Try downloading apps. You may have to re type in your wireless network password.

I fixed it from another post: go into iTunes -> more -> downloads and look for stuck downloads there. It's non-obvious, but it's also not difficult. Delete all the downloads in progress in iTunes and then try downloading apps again.

I guess if you have one download stuck anywhere, it screws up all downloads everywhere.

    Anyway, worked for me. Whew.

I am having this issue too on my ipad, just now, and it is driving me crazy.

Tell me, exactly where are you going into, when you say "itunes>more>downloads"...I'm not sure where you're talking about....and, do I have to do this on my ipad, as well, or do I just do it on the laptop...

Any specifics would be great help...

    Thanks!

    Rob

You do this on the iPad.

Launch the iTunes app. Go to the downloads tab. See if there is something in there that didn't finish downloading. Tap on it to try to resume the download - or swipe across the progress bar in order to bring up the red delete button.

Im having the same issue. just activated an iPhone 4s on Sprint. did several hard resets. Apple told me it was because i didnt register it through my main computer via itunes-which made sense. so i did that, and the issue still persists intermittedly. I'm a Sprint tech, and one of my customers who just upgrade to the 4s yesterday is having the same issue.

i have no podcasts / anything in itunes downloading anywhere. not on my iPad, iPhone, wife's iPad, or on my Macbook. Any other ideas? or is it just a "wait and see" type deal?

This is my boilerplate response to the "apps will not update or install" issue. Maybe something in here will help ignore what you have already tried.

Make sure that you do not have a stalled download in iTunes - a song or podcast .... if you have a download in there that did not finish, complete that one first. Only one thing can download at a time on the iPad so that could be what is causing the problem.

If that doesn't work - sign out of your account, restart the iPad and then sign in again.

Settings>Store>Apple ID. Tap your ID and sign out. Restart the iPad by holding down on the sleep button until the red slider appears and then slide to shut off. To power up hold the sleep button until the Apple logo appears and let go of the button.

Go back to Settings>Store>Sign in and then try to update again. Tap one waiting icon only if necessary to start the download stream.

You can also try deleting the waiting icons - tap and hold down on an icon until it wiggles - the tap the X on the icon to delete it. Then try to download again.

You can try resetting all settings. Settings>General>Reset>Reset All Settings. You will have to enter all of your app preferences and device settings again.

Tell more - are you trying to "get" an app from the Store?

The "tab" you're looking may be "Buy."

Hold finger on one until all

start to jiggle and show a tiny

x that you touch to delete the app.

Then press Home key on bottom

of iPhone to stop the jiggle.

    Is this what you're asking?
