iPad 3 white dot on start up screen not dead pixels?

Hi everyone,

I just bought my new iPad around a week ago and everytime I turn it on I'm getting like 1 or 2 white dots on the loading screen around the apple logo.

They can't be dead pixels cause they kind flicker and disappear anyone notice this and is it normal?

Thanks,

iPad (3rd gen) Wi-Fi, iOS 5.1.1

I'm not sure what the little dots are, but I see that when I have Apps on more than one page of the Home screen, there are more dots near the bottom of the screen. It appears that the dot that is brighter indicates which page you are looking at. If you only have one page of Apps, then there is only one dot with something like a tiny magnifying glass on its left.

If you swipe to the right, you bring up the keyboard for the search function. When you swipe back to the left, you can see that the magnifying glass is bright, and then see it jump back to the right-hand dot.

At least that is what I observe on my iPad 2!

It's certainly not normal. That doesn't happen on either of my iPads. Have you tried rebooting the iPad? It might no tell, but it will not hurt anything either.

Reboot the iPad by holding down on the sleep and home buttons at the same time for about 10-15 seconds until the Apple Logo appears - ignore the red slider - let go of the buttons.

If the dots continue to appear, you might want to take it to an Apple store and let a genius have a look. I would hate to think that the problem could get worse, so I would want someone to look at the device.

Since I do not see an Apple logo when I turn mine on, I assumed you were talking about the page swiping!

When you first turn your iPad on (awaken it), you see a picture that is defined at Settings-Brightness & Wallpaper-Wallpaper. That picture probably has the dots imbedded in it. If you change the picture, the dots should go away.

If you really mean turning on the iPad from having been turned completely off, I do not see any dots on the screen, just the Apple logo. You might have bad pixels in that case!

Hey guys,

Don't worry it's all fine it is normal to see these white dots on the boot up screen. I have purchased the iPad 4 gen lately which also has the exact same white dots. and my ipad3 is still in perfect working condition. I have seen friends who's iPads also does this so basically every ipad has it, it just comes Down to who can see it or not :)

Hey! Ya as I said before there is nothing to worry about in fact I'm still using the iPad and have no issues whatsoever. It's just a little technical glitch that can easily be fixed if this discussion starts getting more views. I wouldn't be surprised if it is fixed by the time we get iOS 7 but then again it might not. Having seen this on all iPads (old and New) its obviously not a hardware issue but in fact a software one.

Just remember don't be worried about it and ignore it as I have as now I don't even realise its there when I boot up. I'm glad this discussion helped you!

Enjoy your new iPad!
