Does your MacBook Pro Retina speakers buzz?

I have the new MacBook Pro Retina, which I absolutely love. The only issue so far is that the speakers buzz sometimes. I've tried different equalizer settings, which helps somewhat. Has anyone else experienced a buzzing or distortion in their audio output? It almost sounds as though a speaker is blown.

I had this exact same problem in 2014 and it became a big problem because the buzzing became too loud that even on 3 to 5 bars of volume the buzzing is on full blast and i can't hear anything else.

So I had it checked here on an apple service, i live in the Philippines so we don't have apple stores here but we have PowerMac which a licensed apple store reseller and service.

So they said it was a hardware problem, so they replaced the speakers with a brand new one from singapore? or somewhere in asia so it took them a month to install it. So as a student I didn't have my laptop to use for my projects and everything. So after a month I got my macbook pro and we tested the speakers and it was working fine so they gave ma a 30 day (or was it 90) warranty for the speakers installed.

so i tested every time i use my mac I play music, videos, sometimes in max volume or just minimum depends on the file. So the testing went on for almost a week and then BOOM the buzzing starts to happen again. So I took it back and then when my macbook arrived i tested it for a day playing the same things then OKAY it happened again. then this went on for 2 more visits. Then me and my mom demanded a macbook replacement because they don't know what was the problem and it was causing me hassle because of school so we contacted Apple Singapore, and even tho we had no more warranty they granted a replacement of my macbook coming from Singapore.

So now Im using my 2nd macbook pro retina 13 inch!

So since then no buzzing sound from my speakers .......

UNTIL NOW. IT JUST HAPPENED THIS MONTH.

SO I DON'T KNOW IF IT'S A SOFTWARE PROBLEM SINCE APPLE KEEPS THEIR IOS UPDATED FREQUENTLY OR IS IT JUST BECAUSE THE PARTS THEY USE FOR THE SPEAKERS ARE DEFECTIVE?

but the buzzing is there when the volume is cranked up or the video that im watching is very loud.

So now I usually use a 3rd party speakers because I don't want to damage the speakers and have to wait a month to replace it and just get it worse like my first laptop.

the buzzing now is bearable unlike last time.

So I'm also seeking answers to this problem because they said it was hardware problem so meaning Apple is ripping us off with cheap inside parts???? :/ I hope not because I thought I was just very unlucky that I get the defective macs but apparently Im not alone.

Any say in this?

Bought a refurbished MacBook Pro 2016 15” six weeks ago, and in the last couple weeks have noticed buzzing (kind of like a tiny high-pitched insect flying around) from the right speaker whenever playing audio. Ten days ago I also upgraded to High Sierra, so curious if there is a connection here (wish I could do some tests on Sierra again). I will call Apple Support this evening...

I called Apple Support last week and was helped by a friendly assistant from the Dubai office. She had me run some tests with speaker balance and volume, and in the process I noticed a similar issue with the left speaker (though the buzzing/vibration was still predominantly from the right speaker). To try to rule out any software issues she instructed me to reinstall High Sierra, which did not help. In the end she indicated that this is probably a hardware issue, and referred me to the nearest authorized Apple service center (MI Care at Avenues Mall in Muscat).

I dropped off my MacBook Pro yesterday, and received a phone call from the technician today. I pointed him to a handy audio test on YouTube, and he was quickly able to pick up the buzzing sound from the right speaker. An hour later he phoned back to report he had identified a problem with the speaker cables and placed an order for a new speaker assembly (left/right speakers with cables) under AppleCare. It will take about two weeks for the parts to arrive and get installed... keeping my fingers crossed this will resolve the issue.

Had my Retina Pro since 2013, no problems until i installed OS Sierra a few days ago - right speaker is buzzing. I see a some of you had the same issue right after installing OS Sierra. It looks like new OS somehow damaged the speaker. Perhaps, it's not designed for earlier version of speakers and their range and causes this damage. Now, try to prove it to Apple -- they wouldn't listen.

Picked up my MacBook Pro four days ago (just a tad over two weeks for the repair service), and the speakers are working great so far (on High Sierra). Here is the report summary I received:

Ran MRI test passed. Ran audio test passed. Found minor abnormal distortion speaker noise issue in right side speaker. Cleaned the speaker still same issue found, checked with known good EarPods still same distortion speaker issue found, hence need to replace top case under warranty replacement.

Not sure if the speakers are built into the top case, or why speaker/cable replacement wasn't mentioned (the technician had indicated this as the proposed repair route on the phone), but as long as the buzz doesn't return, I'll be happy with whatever it took to fix the problem.

Actually, I just determined that the buzzing only occurs with home videos, either .mov or .m4v. The buzzing occurs playing the movies with either QuickTime or or MPlayer. I haven't tried any other players. I also tried playing a couple of commercial movies downloaded to iTunes, and they played without any buzzing.

Even when I tuned the volume down, some buzzing still occurred with the home movies.

This is what I think the problem with the MB Pro Retina speakers is...

Frequency Response is very good. The speakers sound great with distinct sounds across a wide range of frequencies. But it sounds horrible with low quality TV or movie recordings where a lot of mid range and low frequency sounds hit at the same time in a muddled mess. Volume Handling is simply horrible across the mid and lower frequencies. Many movies will buzz when there is a lot of speech, music and bass going on at the same time unless you lower the volume to 1~2 bars.

This is not a problem with the recording except that the MBP Retina speakers don't like them. Recordings and low quality compression DOES NOT BUZZ, period. They may be low definition, they may sound muddled, they may have cut offs from exceeding the allowed dyanmic range, but they do not buzz. If you play the same movie on external speakers they will not buzz. If I play the same movie on my Dell Adamo it does not buzz. Listening to the same section of the same source on my earphones produce zero buzzing.

I am not sure if the problem is with the speakers themselves of other elements within the MBP Retina vibrating in resonance. But it is definitely annoying. And it sounds like component speakers with improper or missing crossover components allowing frequencies the speakers cannot handle at decent volumes to contaminate the driver or attempting to use mid-bass speakers as sub-woofers -- they actually have the frequency response just grossly insufficient travel of the diaphrams and cannot handle any decent volume.

We may be able to figure out the problematic frequencies and do a narrow cut in volume on them if we have a graphic equalizer. Unfortunately, unlike Realtek and IDT drivers, the Cirrus Logic drivers do not offer an EQ. I am tempted to open the MBP Retina up and try to graft an adhoc crossover onto the four speakers in form of caps and inductors. Given the low wattage of the components the caps and inds will be pretty small. But haven't gotten around to it yet... and part of me don't want to rip the MBP apart.
