Does the Sony XAV601BT MirrorLink feature work with the iPhone 4s?

I hope this posting finds everyone doing well. I just purchased a Sony XAV601BT with MirrorLink and have been told that this device will display my iPhone 4s on the screen.

After spending hours on the phone with Sony I have not been able to get this working. I found out that the iPhone 4s is not on the supported list of phone.

Before I return this product to BestBuy, I wanted to see if anyone has gotten this working with their iphone.

Hi, I have the smae problem. I bought mine last week and not managed to get the iPhone 4s mirrored up!

I noticed that the mirror link wasnt compatable with the iPhone, but apparently there might be updated software so the iPhone will mirror link.

But in the meantime if you have the optional extra lead u can use the passenger app! Im waiting for mine to come through the post now.

Have you had any luck at all?

I also have another problem! i put a movie on a usb stick and it wont play it.. 'It says blocked for your own safety' I can imageb that coming up if i was driving, but im not!

It breaks my heart to hear that you are having the same problem, what a pain. Are you referring to the extra USB lead? If so I have that in my glove box. Do you have a link for the passenger app?

I did find the following add-on for the stereo, I am curious if your solution is cheaper.

In regards the playing video, you have to have someone ground out the parking break attachment. If you bought it at a major reseller they won’t do it – because it is technically illegal. If you bring it to a local small car installation place they should be able to get it working. I got mine working and it works great.

Happy 4th – I am assuming you are form the states

Im just glad ive found someone that has this head unit!

Im actually from the UK and it only come out over here like 2 weeks ago!

I was thinking about getting that sat nav add on, but as soon as we get the softwware fro mirror link iPhone, we might as well use a sat nav app, and you never no the passenger app function might support that! (Stll waiting for my lead)

Unfortunately I ended up returning the one that I purchased. It was going to cost me another 200 or 300 dollars to get the navigation working - you have to purchase another adapter if you don’t have an android. I was really bummed out that it did not work out, especially after paying 300 to get it installed at a place that got the DVD to work while driving! It also was disappointing that Sony misleads you on the phones that it can support.

If you have an android phone that fully supports it then it is a great system. If you have an iphone – which I am assuming you do since you put a posting here – it’s kind of your call. Too bad apple is not going to create a car stereo for us.

Also so that everyone knows, mirror link does not work with the iphone. It is not supported by Apple.

Mirror link only works and designed for non Iphone smart phones. It won't work with Iphone. the one you will need is called App Mode. Ipod and iphone support will only means you will have iphone or ipod control. It works on most new headunits now. however, you won't be able to have your iphone screen on the head unit. you will only have ipod and iphone control on. cheers

Hi, it means iphone and ipod control. So mainly about muisc and video. Ipod and ipod app in your iphone. So you can choose album, playlist, volume, up, down, fast forward etc. But you won't have the control of other apps and other interface. So made for iphone and ipod mainly means music. Mirror link is for mirroring the whole screen of phone to stereo even like facebook app, gps etc. cheers

no it is called App mode. Mirror link only works with other smart phones like andriod 4.1 system. You will need app mode but even app mode doesn't mean you will have the whole screen share between the phone and head unit. you will need "supported" iphone app to display on head unit. Like the Pioneer head units. You will need to download the pioneer GPS app, music player app to sync with the head unit(those apps are not free, the GPS app is about $79 which is about the same as the iphone TOMTOM app, you can download them from apple itunes). Go for Pioneer if you use iphone and alpine (with Mirror link) if you have android.

What you need is the new AppRadio3 from Pioneer...has builtin DVD and everything works perfectly.

Sony has a new unit out too 7" XAV-712BT and 6.1 XAV-612BT

Sony has killer visual graphics too.

i say if you have an i-phone you may have to stick to Pionner's AppRadio3 everything including google maps works on that 7" screen as long as the phone is plugged in via USB.

If you have a samsung or sony phone, the sony is the best handsdown and all mirrorlink works perfectly with almost no delay.

The sony has HD Radio too meaning you get multiple crystal clear streams on the same frequency,so u can choose between say Pop and R&B on the same 94.7 FM HD stream without changing channels.

I'm leaning towards the sony though, graphics are amazing, the Pioneer is cool but boring...looks like SONY may have added iphone compatibility / Mirrorlink, still reading up on it but i love love the sony visuals...hoping the mirrorlink function has been perfected.
